Superheroes in the bedroom

When people were buying us wedding gifts, we were clueless when asked what ‘colour scheme’ the bedroom was going to be. Was this something normal adults thought about? We kind of threw on whatever boring random duvets and pillowcases we happened to have.

One day, we were in Mr Price Home looking for some kitchen stuff, when we spotted a Justice League duvet set. Even better – it was for a double bed! We looked at each other and just knew we had to have it. Getting Superman, Batman, The Flash and Green Lantern to join us in our sleeping quarters was way more exciting than any other house purchases we had ever made!

A few months later, shopping in the same store, we couldn’t believe our luck when we found a double-bed duvet set proudly sporting the Avengers. (At this stage, we’d pretty much kept using the Justice League – we’d wash it, let it dry out during the day, and put it right back on the bed. All other bedsheets were just boring now). Once again, it was not even necessary to discuss this purchase. We now had Iron Man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk and Thor watching over us sleep.

Now, if only we could get a Star Wars set, the bedroom would be perfect…

Let's throw a Star Wars party!

I want to jump right into one of the most awesome things we've ever done: a Star Wars party!

Both of us love Star Wars, and we spend hours discussing all kinds of fan theories, especially with The Force Awakens having come out recently. So naturally, we wanted an opportunity to play around with all our Star Wars stuff. Marius has his birthday on January 2, which is a really difficult date to get people together, so we decided to have a belated birthday party on January 16 (not that we really need an excuse for a party).

Being the geeks that we are, we also love dressing up as our favourite characters, so we went all out with dressing up, decorating the house, and personalising the snacks. Guests were also encouraged to dress up. Marius even adapted a game of 'Secret Hitler' to the Star Wars universe - we changed it to 'Secret Sith Lord'.

I'm just going to throw in tons of photos now - most of them are self-explanatory. I'll also add a list of businesses that supplied some of the props and decorations at the end, for those who are interested.

Let's start with the decorations:

I drew Stormtrooper faces on balloons with a Sharpie - really impressed with the result!

We should probably have removed the pink butterfly from this picture

Then we get to the food (always the best part!):

This was a favourite with everyone

Some drinks from a galaxy far far away...
Our ice bucket contained X-wing and star-shaped ice cubes (not pictured)

And lastly, the people (or droids):

Marius killed it as Kylo Ren, complete with voice-changing mask
Han, Leia and Padme showed up for a family photo with a reluctant Kylo Ren
Annalene went as Rey

Han and Leia also came by

So there you have it. Hope you enjoyed the photos!

Here's a list of some of the places (mostly around Bloemfontein) where we got some epic Star Wars gear:

Look & Listen - mugs, bobbleheads
iParty - cake, edible ink pen, balloons
Red Claw Comix - Darth Maul, X-wing ice cube tray
Toyzone - Kylo Ren mask, stormtrooper cups, various figurines
Reggies - party props (hats, bunting, plates, serviettes)
Typo - photo props
Builder's Corner/and Kloppers - lightsaber supplies
Cloof Wines online shop - Dark Side red wine

Thank you also to various websites for inspiration, especially regarding the food.
