Disco Fever

Welcome to the disco!

To celebrate surviving 2016 and to have a good time with a few friends before everyone disappears for the festive season, we decided to have another themed bash, and this time, we went for colour, sparkle, funk and music.

Disco is a very versatile option for a themed party, since it spans several decades and styles, and most people will be able to find a few things in their closets that will suit the occasion. Throw in a few handfuls of glow sticks, dig out the Christmas lights, pile on the snacks, and you have a party!

We also switched on the PS3 for a SingStar competition. In party mode, everyone gets a chance to compete, and the mic is switched so often that no one feels particularly exposed, with all the confusion and laughter. Even the more reluctant singers started requesting songs and participating.

Easy decor: put glow sticks into bottles with water, and scatter old CDs around

We bought a small mirror ball and Marius made it work by rigging it next to a head lamp in the corner of the room

What is a party without food? Also, we streamed a lava lamp background on the laptop, for extra ambience.

Some festive champagne drinks welcomed the guests

These cool glowing lollipops were sold at a party store near us.

Lights and a nice backdrop. Annalene had some time on her hands to paint the slogans before the party.

The groovy disco people. Everyone dressed up!

Carla and Wolf keeping it classy.

Igi went all out. The pants were a highlight of the evening.

Sneaking in a picture of the SingStar duels. It was loads of fun.

A Red Claw Halloween: cosplay and loot haul

This past weekend, Red Claw Comix hosted their annual Halloween-time evening of cosplay, lucky draw, specials and a Magic: The Gathering tournament. We of course rose to the challenge, and decided to do the cosplay thing.

Marius went for his Bloodborne Hunter cosplay (you can check out more photos of this here), and Annalene decided on a Steampunk look.

There were a bunch of other people who also rose to the challenge, ranging from a Freddy Krueger and a Wednesday Addams to a Kratos from God of War. Fun times were had.

First prizes went to Kratos and Harley Quinn. Photo courtesy of Red Claw Comix

Of course, we also could not resist buying a few items at the store, especially since everything was marked down for the evening, and Red Claw Comix gave out treat bags and stickers with each purchase. Both of us also placed second (in male and female categories respectively) in the cosplay competition, and we could not wait to spend the store vouchers we received as our prizes.
