We're expecting... A PS5!

In these uncertain times

In this 'new normal'

So, it's 2020, and as massive PlayStation fans, we are super excited for the PS5. We watched everything Sony posted throughout the year, and when they finally revealed the release date and price, we gathered our savings and scoured local websites for pre-orders. Luckily, we were able to secure a PS5 each before all the pre-orders in South Africa were grabbed by other excited players.

Since we are a married couple in our 30s, people expect certain ... things ... from us, so we decided to have a little fun and lightly troll our families and Facebook friends by having an 'expecting parents' photo shoot and gender reveal video for our expected 'twins'. Our friendly neighbourhood videographer and friend was more than eager to help us out with this project, and the results were amazing.

Our photographer created a lovely ultrasound scan of the 'twins'.

It was pretty clear that these were no ordinary babies, but a few people still assumed that we were actually pregnant...

We had so much fun recreating a pregnancy shoot. All photos credit to Wynand van der Linde.

Even Kratos and Atreus from God of War were invited to the photo shoot, to bring some father-son vibes.

We had some fun with figurines we had been collecting, and we could not resist an 'Uncharted' pun... Apologies to Nathan Drake.

Agent 47 also seems excited for the new arrivals.

The older siblings lined up waiting for the next generation.

We could not resist creating a few catchy captions for some of the photos.

Looking forward to the new additions.

And finally, the gender reveal video (turn sound on!):

We had so much fun doing this (and we might have gotten congratulatory messages from people who did not properly read our posts), but we honestly cannot wait to experience the new consoles together.

 Bruh.

Geek heaven: Comic Warehouse

We were recently in the Johannesburg area (check out our Medieval Fayre post), and decided to take the drive to visit the Comic Warehouse before we went home. This place is probably South Africa's largest comic book store, and is basically geek heaven (but if you are broke, it could also be considered geek hell).

We spent a really long time going through every aisle and shelf, oohing and ahing at the merchandise. A visit is recommended if you enjoy geeky things. They have an especially large amount of Harry Potter merchandise, but also a bit of everything else. Here are some photos we wanted to share.

Some retro posters and machines

A Punisher arcade game! Marius had to be dragged away.
A character that gets mentioned way too rarely: Throg

Some Star Wars goodies

These figurines were stunning (and expensive)

You don't realize that you need a life-sized Boba Fett in your life, until you see one...
Artoo!

Loot haul: Superman energy drinks, Lord of the Rings Pops, The Godfather boardgame, The Witcher 3 pint glasses, and a PlayStation mug. Not pictured: the amazing cookies we already finished eating.

All you need when drinking from these, is a song by Dandelion.

This is what the mug looks like when heated.

Aragorn and Boromir

Really cool details on these Pops. Check the Horn of Gondor.

Medieval Fayre: Viking Invasion

We attended our first Medieval Fayre together this year. The Medieval Fayre is a yearly event held at Muldersdrift, and it is an amazing experience. People dress up in medieval garb and participate in axe throwing, mock battles, tomato throwing, archery, tavern quizzes, impromptu dancing, and much more.

This year's theme was Viking Invasion, which was right up our alley (we pride ourselves on our surname being from Nordic origins and translating to 'champion'). It also happened to coincide with our fourth wedding anniversary, so we grabbed some tickets and made a weekend out of it.

Some of the other raiders were happy to pose for a picture.

Ye Olde Information Booth.

These dogs were undoubtedly some of the stars of the Fayre.

A rare picture of us together.

The Jarl Couple Tickets got us turkey legs and craft beer, along with some other things.

Eating meat like a Viking.

Your friendly neighbourhood Norseman.

Getting some archery tips from a professional.

Vegetable Justice - you pay to throw tomatoes at a very insulting criminal in the stocks.

Marius attempting to deal justice with a tomato (we missed all our throws).

Curly fries and yummy burger.

Fairy tales do come true - Marius found a unicorn.

The bacon doughnut was another popular item at the Fayre.

Action shot of Annalene practicing to shoot her enemies.

Annalene got her very own driking horn fit for a jarl.

Axe throwing lessons - one of the most satisfyinig sports EVER.

Our loot haul from the Fayre. Mead, tankards, drinking horns, chain maille jewellery.

An official photo of some of the merrymakers. We are just left of the centre.
A blacksmith practising his trade.

This handcrafted gladius was exquisite.

Some vikings ready for feasting.

So many people dressed for the occasion. The atmosphere was amazing.

Some gear for the Fight-A-Knight area.

We had a total blast, and would recommend this to anyone who loves alternative events, history, or dressing up. We cannot wait to hear next year's theme.
